“We’re honored to have been asked by the TEDx Portland Concordia University events committee to host a salon at this event,” said Shelah Johnson, editor-in-chief for TrailerChix. “The title of this event, Think.Inspire.Go, really resonates with us.”

TrailerChix has fast become a leading voice for an elegant, glamorous lifestyle in a small, eco-friendly footprint, demonstrating that one can live a happier, richer and more productive life.

“If we really put our minds to it,” continued Johnson, “we can come up with some very creative and beautiful ways to integrate travel trailers, tiny homes, cob houses, container conversions, etc, into our housing market. Alternative housing offers us so many options for lowering our emissions of CO2 and other greenhouse gases. Smaller footprints also help us form a more balanced neighborhood, creating stronger and more viable communities. We hope to help change the way the world thinks about alternative housing. We want to normalize the small space living concept for millions of Americans of all ages and economic groups. We want to show that to go small is to live a large and fulfilling life. Our goal is to help create a path of acceptance of alternative dwellings so those individuals and families choosing to go small are not relegated to the outskirts of town. Supporting this TEDx event and others like it is essential if we are going to be successful in creating change.”

The salon is open to all attendees of the TEDx Portland Concordia University. TrailerChix hopes to open a dialog on such issues as:

  • Social and economic pros and cons for alternative dwelling integration.
  • Where in the metro area can we create space for alternative dwellings?
  • Should city planning committees be required to rethink zoning policies to allow for alternative housing?
